Catherine M. GraingerPhone: 303-442-1900 Cathy Grainger practices primarily in the areas of commercial litigation and water law. After graduating from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1989, Ms. Grainger was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Sherman G. Finesilver, Chief Judge, United States District Court for the District of Colorado. She then joined the national firm of McKenna & Cuneo in 1990 and was an associate and of counsel member of the firm's litigation department for over ten years. While at McKenna & Cuneo she was involved in a wide array of commercial litigation matters, including representing banks in contract, fraud, and other disputes and a multi-million dollar contract case on behalf of a savings and loan association (Winstar-related) against the federal government. Ms. Grainger’s experience also includes a multi-jurisdictional fraud case against a stock brokerage firm, a hotly-contested federal district court case involving offshore trusts and the fraudulent transfer act, and a complex contract arbitration on behalf of a government contractor.
After leaving McKenna & Cuneo, Ms. Grainger
took a year off to study Italian and Italian art history and traveled to Italy
with her husband and children. Upon her return to Boulder, she began a solo
practice, providing contract legal services to firms in the Denver/Boulder area.
She worked on a wide variety of cases, focusing primarily on researching and
writing dispositive motions for contract and commercial tort cases and assisting
in trial preparation. Ms.
Grainger is a former member of the Board of Directors of Rebuilding Together
with Christmas in April - Metro Denver, helping low income homeowners live in
safer homes. While on the Federal Decision Committee of the Colorado Bar
Association, Ms. Grainger drafted numerous federal decision summaries for
publication in the Colorado Lawyer. Ms. Grainger is admitted to practice in the State of
Colorado, and before the United States District Court for the District of
Colorado and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is also admitted to the
United States Court of Federal Claims and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.
She is a member of the Colorado and Boulder Bar Associations.
